From the moment of its introduction in 2001, many within the perfectionist audio community quickly realized there was something magical about the sound of Sophia. Sophia was conceived as a way to achieve, in a single cabinet design, most of the same dynamic speed, transparency, and musicality associated with the larger multi-cabinet Wilson products.

A felicitous synergy attended Sophia from its birth, and, far from being a mere simulacrum of the products which inspired it, Sophia became a cult sensation, prized for its balance and rightness. Listeners were beguiled by its ability to present music with sweetness sans coloration and its projection of a richly detailed, huge soundstage. Sophia achieved this without ever becoming etched or fatiguing. Above all, Sophia was prized for its value. Here was a loudspeaker worthy of the Wilson name in every element without the price tag associated with its larger siblings.

A current reservoir of 70.000uF delivers 2 x 120W of clean and powerful dynamics into an 8 ohms load. Like the rest of our amplifiers, ECI 5 is stable down to 0.5 ohms.

Equipped with an over-sized toroidal transformer and individual power supplies for each of its seven channels, the GX-7 combines considerable output with quiet, low-distortion operation. Because each channel has its own power supply, the GX-7 has significantly improved channel separation. Intended for systems where the additional output of the RX-7 or the ZX-7 is not necessary, the GX-7 with 125 watts per channel into 8 ohms - has more than enough power to drive most multi-channel speaker systems. When driving a 4 ohm load, the output of the GX-7 increases to an impressive 188 watts per channel.

The IS Reference is a direct evolution of the IS, and "gives more than an idea" of what the more expensive model, the IT, is capable of.

 

Its exacting circuits and power supply receive special upgrades in order to further allow the fantastic potential of our low memory technology to come to fruition. The power output remains the same as for the Model IS, but micro-dynamics and resolution are increased to allow greater expression of the feeling and intention of the music. Thus also the sound stage is wider, detail is sharper and the presentation is more mature, even if the sound balance remains respectfully neutral as with the Model IS.
